“Learn to Fight From the Position you are In,
Instead of the Position you Want to Be In.”
This succinct advice comes from Centrifuge Training’s course on vehicle cqb, shared with us on a recent training day.
It’s good advice.
The same applies to grappling in a combative environment, of course. Too often we hear sage advice that includes:
“Don’t go to the ground in a street fight, you don’t want to be there.”
Or “Just go crazy, you must keep from being put on the ground.”
“Keep the reactionary gap. Don’t let them too close!”
The plain truth, evident to those grounded in reality (pardon the pun), is that in order to to get to a position you want to be, you have to able to work from the position you are in.
And the second you add pressure, friction, and an opposing will the inability to do so will be made obvious. Whether its a gunfight, a standing grapple, or a ground fight, you must be able to FIGHT FROM in order to FIGHT TO…..
