“Learn to Fight From the Position you Are In,
Instead of the Position you Want to Be In.”
Advice from Centrifuge Training’s course on Vehicle CQB, shared on a recent training day.
It’s good advice.
The same applies of course to grappling in a combative environment. Too often we hear sage advice such as:
“Don’t go to the ground in a street fight, you don’t want to be there.”
Or -literally yes one instructor said this – “Just go crazy, you must keep from being put on the ground.”
“Keep the reactionary gap. Don’t let them too close!”
The plain truth, evident to those grounded in reality (pardon the pun), is that in order to to get to a position you want to be, you must be able to work from the position you end up in. In order to retain position, you must be able to work in and out of position. The second we add pressure, friction, and Opposing Will, any inability with position – to fight from – will be made obvious.
Whether its a gunfight, a standing grapple, or a grounded survival situation, you must be able to FIGHT FROM in order to FIGHT TO…..
