This is a nod to some excellent work…
Finally practical, defensible, and highly effective takedowns for street usage without a sacrifice throw to the ground or a high amplitude body slam that could cause tremendous damage to a subject when not warranted by the situation.
The “hip cut” takedown shown at about 1:00 has been one of my go-tos for years, and note that he does not even have to put his knees on the ground when completing the takedown. I call it a Corkscrew takedown and it should be in the repertoire of every police officer on the planet, let alone the citizen defender who may have to account for his use of injurious techniques. The knee bump version shown next is good and also works in a foot sweep configuration.
I don’t know these guys and have no affiliation with them – a friend sent me this video and I think its good stuff and an example of the kind of thing we should be seeing more in the jiujitsu community. This is the kind of thing that will get “Jits” into police academies nationwide and make the training better, safer, and more effective all at the same time.
Nice work, men.
